Hotel Residence
What was the client brief?
Working closely with the client and Four Seasons’ design team our remit was to manage the design and develop of 40 luxury hotel residences set in and around a grand medieval castle surrounded by beautiful countryside. We were also briefed to collaborate with award winning golf course architects Robert Trent Jones II on the adaptation of the hotel’s golf course.
What is the history of the property?
Both the castle and surrounding medieval estate had planning permission for conversion into a luxury hotel and residences. The first phase for Fervidus White and the team was to develop a design masterplan for this high-spec property and create a cohesive relationship between the existing golf course and the hotel residences.
Design elements
Many of the residences would be new build and in relatively closer proximity to each other. We utilised towers, walled gardens, the natural terrain and planting to create both privacy, authentic properties and to make maximium use of the views.
What challenges did we need to overcome?
As the property was historic we were naturally constrained by its traditional layout and our main challenge was to design luxury residences in relatively small building areas, while also achieving exceptionally high-quality results retaining exclusivity and privacy for each individual residence. Of course we also had to maintain the architectural integrity of the original property and ensure it remained sympathetic to its surroundings.
What were the project timescales?
The initial phase took 12 months and involved us selecting a skilled team for each aspect of the project and collaborating with the property owner and Four Seasons to award contracts and develop detailed design briefs. Then a further six months were spent designing and developing the final masterplan for all 40 hotel residences.
